It’s always funny when you start a blog for the first time, you have so many ideas running through your head and you’re still all buzzing from picking your new layout and header, you keep checking your page like a million times just to see how everything looks and if it looks how you want it to.
Well, that’s kind of how I feel right now!
So anyway, I wanted to start this blog as a means of practice for a career I really want; music journalism. I have always been attracted to music, I’d attribute that to my parents being cheesy and putting headphones on my mom’s belly when she was pregnant with me. I started playing music in elementary, being forced to emit shrill notes on the recorder in a room full of other kids, Three Blind Mice just isn’t the same for me anymore, after that the next instrument I picked up was the violin in fifth grade. Then through sixth grade until graduation I played the clarinet in the high school band, where I was a complete band geek. When I graduated, I taught myself how to play a few chords here and there on the acoustic and bass guitar via the magic of YouTube.
I have always wanted to be a journalist, for as long as I could remember. I had this microphone as a kid and I would go up to various members of my household and asked them questions “reporter-style”, it wasn’t until I watched MTV one night that I saw someone’s job title as ‘music journalist’, and ever since that night that’s what I wanted to strive to be. So after I graduated high school, I went to my local two year college in my town, graduated with an Associates Degree in Mass Communication and transferred out here to San Marcos and Texas State University to work on my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and I’ve been trying to get into their amazing radio program KTSW. (I won’t stop bothering you guys until you hire me already, dammit!)
I hope to start this blog with primarily album reviews of bands I love or have recently come across, concerts I happen to attend here in the San Marcos/Austin/San Antonio area, and sometimes maybe just a general consensus of what’s happening in the music media world.
While I am no stranger to blogging, I’ve kept a journal since I was in junior high, (and reading those back all these years later is a trip, let me tell you!) and I hope I can keep these entries as conversational as possible while still maintaining an air of business. Let this be the mullet of music review blogs; business in the front, party in the back, ever classic. You know?
So while this blog is coming from very humble beginnings, cue me typing with one hand and eating microwave macaroni in a dorm room, I hope that one day this can bring me to maybe typing with one hand and eating microwave macaroni on a tour bus! Hey, everyone has to start off somewhere! I mean, The Beatles started off with skiffle and washboards, right?
